If you're considering it, book a venue tour in the evening if you can. Seeing how that light moves across the grounds at golden hour will sell you immediately. There are tons of stunning places to take golden hour wedding portraits. One thing to beware of it the giant reception tent. Photos in white tents can be tough, but it's worth the insurance for unpredictable PNW showers.

Abernethy Center: A Venue That Actually Accommodates Everyone

Sandy River Gardens: When You Want Oregon to Be the Star

If you've ever driven out toward Mount Hood on a clear day and thought "I want to get married out here" — Sandy River Gardens is your answer. Located in Troutdale on the edge of the Columbia River Gorge corridor, this venue sits right along the Sandy River with the kind of natural scenery that Oregon does better than just about anywhere.

Tall trees, wild greenery, the sound of moving water nearby. For couples who want their wedding to feel rooted in the Pacific Northwest, this is it. It's not trying to be fancy — it's just genuinely beautiful in a way that feels effortless. There is a beautiful waterfall that the sun hits just right that lights up like glitter. The inside reception area is also beautiful.

Sandy River Gardens is easily Portland's best spring wedding venue. It has many beautiful Kwanzan cherry blossom trees that are lush and fluffy. The green grass is lush and inviting.

From my perspective behind the camera, venues like this are where I get to do my best work. Natural light through tree canopy, organic textures, and a couple who's fully in their element because they love being outside. The resulting photos have a depth and atmosphere that a ballroom just can't replicate.

Sandy River Gardens works especially well for couples going for a more intimate, nature-forward wedding. Think guest counts where everyone at the table knows you well, an outdoor ceremony, and photos that look like they were pulled from a film rather than a venue brochure. You will have the most STUNNING bridals you can imagine.

What to Ask Before You Book

Regardless of which venue you fall in love with, there are a few practical questions worth asking:
